There was more of a sense of an indie rock feel with guitar driven melodies, dreamy harmonies and thoughtful lyrics, high energy and a somewhat familiar, welcoming sound. They are a musical group of four brothers hailing from Canada. They began their careers at an early age, performing country music in the early '90s, while still in their pre-teens.
Towards the end of the decade they made the leap to a new chapter of their lives, embarking on a varied path of performing pop rock music. They progressed from teen pop idols to an edgier rock sound working with producer Bob Rock, who rose to fame working with Bon Jovi and Metallica. Their music had an expansive exposure, often being utilized in movies and television, with high profile guest appearances on Disney to All-Star baseball games, numerous accolades and awards. It was a meteoric rise to fame, indeed.
As with all boy bands, they eventually went their own separate ways with Scott embarking on a solo career in Canada, Clint and Bob based in Nashville, performing as a group, recently releasing a new EP under the name Endless Summer, with the debut single "Amen For Women" and finally Dave embarking on a career as a yoga instructor. Every generation has its own version of the boy band. What happens though, so often with a long list of these bands, and generally rather quickly as far as musical lifespans go, is they fall into oblivion, the love affair soon comes to an inauspicious end.
It's for a couple of reasons — first off, the young listeners themselves outgrow their adolescent affection, the fondness fades and they move on to other things, in music and in life. Also the members of the band themselves get burned out, with a hectic tour schedule repeating the monotony of performing the same songs over and over again, along with a high demand on their time, which creates no personal life to speak of.
And the artists themselves veer off in other directions to find their own path, basically venturing out to do their own thing. But The Moffatts, this family rooted, gifted group of musicians, are great.
These young men are super talented and it was obvious with an outstanding show; folks in attendance experienced a treat during the Manila leg of their farewell tour. What impressed me here was the vocal harmony itself. There's that special connection you find between brothers, never mind what could be said about the mind-boggling bond between twins or triplets.
You could really feel and see the connection between them as they sang. Now with a more of a sophisticated sound, something that has developed from elementary stages in their musical life, these guys toured all around over the globe, all before the tender young age of 18, when most bands are just embarking on their journey.
They enjoyed a high popularity in Europe and were a big hit in the Southeast Asian markets, charting in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and of course the Philippines. Back in the day their concerts here were a huge deal, making headlines in every lifestyle section of various media outlets at the time. TV appearances. Throughout the nineties, The Moffatts made hundreds of live performances and hundreds of television appearances worldwide.
Fiona Phillips, the lead character in the show, was an obsessed fan on the show, while her mom Molly Phillips, played by Mackenzie Phillips, was performing with The Moffatts. During the same year, the group appeared in the documentary, The Closing of Chapter One, detailing their move from pop to rock. His three daughters, Kate, Madeline, and Amy appeared on this episode as well. In August , the group broke up following their concert in London, Ontario.
Scott Moffatt had enough of the comparisons to boy-bands and felt that the band wasn't receiving the credit they deserved as both musicians and entertainers, and now that he had completed his five year commitment to the band, chose to quit. Dave Moffatt recently appeared on Canadian TV program, Entertainment Tonight Canada, where it was stated that the band broke up because his father was not able to accept his sexuality. It was also stated that "The Moffatts" was his father's dream, and that he had pushed himself and his brothers into it.
Frank's take on these comments were - "The Moffatts break up had nothing to do with Dave's sexuality, but it does make for good press. After the break-up, two of the triplets, Bob and Clint Moffatt, briefly joined a group called Pusch and performed at the Winter Olympics. The band was later renamed Hidell , and lasted slightly over a year and released one album. Bob convinced Clint to join him in Thailand and start a band called Same Same under the Thailand label.
On April 10, , song previews from the upcoming independent release The Allegory of the City were put up on his music page along with the promise of a limited edition version soon being available for pre order.
He played all instruments and did all vocals on the record, as well as produced it. The CD will be available worldwide but tour dates have not been determined. The album is available at www. Scott is currently in Thailand producing a rock band called Slot Machine. Dave Moffatt eventually relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, at first with aspirations of attending the University of Winnipeg and then deciding to launch an acting and modeling career.
In addition to hosting karaoke nights at a local gay bar including Calgary's Twisted Element , Dave also appeared in a Winnipeg production of Miss Saigon and was a contestant on Canadian Idol, making it into the top 32 before being eliminated. In , the Canadian Pacific Railway announced in a press release that Bob and Clint were "reunited" and appeared under the name "The Moffatts" for the railway's Holiday Train program, a mobile fundraiser for community food banks.
In , Scott also joined the tour see this photograph Clint to the far left, Scott and Bob to the far right. Although the group has shut down its main website, the Moffatts remain popular in Europe; its German fansite, linked below, is quite active. He still lives in Canada and eventually started a career as a yoga instructor. The Moffatts reunited for the first time in over ten years for an online Christmas show on Stageit on December 22, The tour kicked off in February and hit stops in Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines.
In May , Dave came out of retirement to hold a farewell concert of his own in Manila. By the end of , the Moffats' farewell turned into a complete reunion, as Dave rejoined the band to work on new music.
