Meaning of how does your garden grow

Others claim the meaning was about torturing her victims. Silver bells stood for thumb screws that were torture devices, cockle shells that was a genital torture device and the pretty maids in a row stood for the people lining up to be executed by the Halifax Gibbet, which is the same as the guillotine. This interpretation I believe to be the real one, as the meaning of "How does your garden grow? As with all the interpretations, the mystery behind which one is the true origin still remains.

As , I cannot go far in my garden, I decided to make a small aromatic garden on the terrace in front of the kitchen french window. If I am able to go out on Friday, I shall buy basil, parsley, chives, and other aromatic plants. What do you think of tomatoes in pots? Or any idea for other plants?

Tomatoes do well in pots Camille. Perhaps some capsicum and Asian greens? Really you should grow what you like to eat. My strawberries are thriving in a pot and they are delicious. Good luck and good gardening! Very interesting post, Camille, I think you should do more of them, with other ditties, or the contines.

And thanks for reminding me of Alison Lurie, I used to love her books, must re-read. X, Marina. Like Liked by 3 people. Thank you, Marina. Yes, spring has finally arrived here. Only warmth is missing, but it may be arm enough during summer! And rain is a good thing. Alison Lurie is a writer I like a lot and I reread her rather regularly. And I thought about Vinnie Minner researching the playground ditties. In France, we say that History is always written by those who won the battles and had the power.

Is there one and onnly one? I do not think so. Myths give us another version of history and of human history; I mean the istory within us. This is why I find Jung and the archetypes so fundamental in the analytic thought. It is another reality, sometimes more universal. There are Japanese myths that are not far from our Mediterranean myths. Your grand children are lucky to learn about history and myth at first hand. But Greece is one of our corner stones in all manners of myths and histories!

I hope you are well. What a lovely and learned blog! And I love the illustrations. I do wish I had kept my copy, because now I want to reread it. I reread it from time to time as well as other novels by Alison Lurie. I like the books and I like the interconnection of characters — as I say in the post, rather Pymesque. In fact, I like writers who build their own world either parallel to our own like Zola, Balzac or Trollope or embedded in ours like Pym, Lurie, Thirkell — I cannot see any French writer who would qualify here.

We are drowned in books as none is given and we have inherited books from previous generations. I like rereads. Thank you for your comments and compliments: it took time to put together, and it is rather rambling, but it was interesting research and search for facts, references and illustrations!

These are beautiful illustrations. It certainly makes you think. Thabk you very much indeed! Yes, I did some research for the illustrations and for the meandering or rambllig blog as well. But I like it! You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. We need God and we need one another. We only find that in a community of faith, hope, and love.
