It worked adding the extension jpg. I save normally. The program asks me if I want to overwrite. But it shouldn't because it's a JPEG and not a psd file. I saved it the jpegs folder and it has the extension psd. I changed the extension from psd to jpg and it was fine. I did a get info on it and it sees it as a jpg. But still not sure why I need to change the extension.
As I said this started when I upgraded my Mac to Catalina a few days ago. That is strange and could be a bug. Just did a google search and it is a bug. Adobe is recommending users wait to upgrade unless you are doing light editing. You file is probably too large. The solution was to change to the RGB color mode via:. Convert it to RGB and that should fix it. Wrong color mode or bit settings 8, 16 or 24 bit image : PNG, for example, can only be saved if the image is in RGB mode.
Your preferences need to be reset. In my psd version, it was a checkbox saying 'Reset preferences next time Photoshop quits. Change the resolution when you create new photo. I wish that jpg would be in the list of formats, and then, when selected, I would be told that the file would be converted to 8 bits. I'm paying for this useless photoshop shitware - the least you can do is to have some customer service number!
